December/2018

Once again, it’s that time.

The close of yet another year. And a recap of another month.

To be honest, I am feeling a little down about the start of this new year.

We didn’t do much at all this year and that is just sad. To make matters worse, I don’t have the foggiest idea if/when we’ll be PCSing, so I can’t even say definitively we’ll make up for it.

But! As always, we’ll do what we can to make the best of it.

December was a weird month. Like the rest of the year it flew by. I took all of my vacation time to go home for Christmas.

Other than that, we didn’t do much.

Audie got to visit Santa at Petco. Normally we don’t do that, but I figured what the heck.

He looks so excited — just like a little kid.

He did really well! I wasn’t sure he’d be too keen on it but he was awesome, even if he looks like a goober.

Speaking of Audie, I picked him up a Wisdom Panel kit so we’ll hopefully see what breeds he comes from. It was more for my peace of mind than anything else — I’d like to know what to expect health-wise for my little nugget. I could care less what breed he ends up being. He’s my baby and I’d love him no matter what.

After seeing Santa, my In-Laws came to celebrate Christmas with us. We didn’t get nearly enough time with them, and that really bums me out. Everyone had so little time off this year. But I’m glad we got to see them.

They brought their doggos too, so Audie got to hang out with Opie and Andy.

Opie really liked being under the tree.

Andy has gotten so big since we saw him last. Excuse the grainy quality, he’s hard to capture sitting still!

For some reason, we didn’t get any photos of the human visitors. I’ll definitely have to remedy that next year.

After the In-Laws came to see us, we hit the road for Nebraska. It was a really long drive and bringing the whole menagerie was challenging. Jack got sick about 2 hours from our destination and made a mess of his carrier. The girls did pretty well and Audie was good — no one likes being in the car for 10 hours though.

We got to see my family for a few days which was really nice, even if it wasn’t long enough. Luckily, my mom is a stickler for photos, so we at least captured some family photos in front of the tree.

Gotta love it when Dad hides!

We even got the doggos to pose.

Audie, Maddie, Charlie, and Luna – this took about 40 takes to get right.

Audie and my Baby Sister’s dog Luna do not get along…so Audie has some scabby bits on his head and a small split in his ear. I don’t get why they don’t jive, but they never have. Thankfully, everyone is ok.

We drove around my tiny hometown and looked at some Christmas light displays.

These lights are practically antiques!

This house was bright!

We visited Grammys and Gramps while we were home as well.  We were able to catch a nice family photo in front of their tree too.

Yay for tripods and timers!

My cousin Scott and I even recreated an old photo of the two of us.  Same house, just different décor with quite a few years in between.

After a whirlwind trip, we came back to Tennessee and had our own Christmas.  It wasn’t super eventful, and admittedly it was a little skimpy.

It’s not what is under the tree that matters — we were tight this year, but we made the most of it.

As usual, we captured our annual matching jammies by the tree.  Audie was not cooperative at all this year. He wasn’t a very happy camper.

Audie was such a crank. He didn’t appreciate the long car rides, cranky dogs, or being dressed up. He was really acting like a moody teenager.

All in all, 2018 was a slower year, that flew by too fast. We may not have had many adventures, but we managed to make some fun memories.  With 2019 we plan to go on more adventures and start focusing on our biggest adventure yet: starting our family!  Well, the two-legged kind.  We don’t have any set plans as to how/when yet, but it’s barely January.

We’ll see what comes next. Hopefully you’ll all follow our continuing journey.

Until then,

Cheers!

A. xoxo
